M-Sport Member Spotlight

Lucy Fulton

This month’s M-Sport Monthly Member Spotlight features Lucy Fulton, our Electrical Harness Technician. Lucy talks about her role in the electrical department and how she got started in the field.

How long have you been with M-Sport, and how did you come to work here?

I’ve worked at M-Sport for eight years now. I first came to M-Sport to carry out my work experience during my time at sixth form where I spent my week in the electrical department which I thoroughly enjoyed. Once I finished my A-Levels I started working here in electrical that same summer and the rest is history!

Could you give a summary of what your day-to-day looks like as an Electrical Technician and what various projects do you work on?

My day to day as an Electrical Harness Technician involves stripping and rebuilding Rally1 starter motors for each event, building and repairing wiring harnesses and sensors for all projects, these being Rally1, Rally2, Dakar, GT3 and GT4, as well as doing jobs on customer looms. This means my job can vary each day depending which project is most urgent at the time.

I’ve carried out some work in our Quality Control laboratory testing various looms which I really enjoyed, so from time to time I help out in there if needed to.

What type of skills do you need for your role?

When working as an Electrical Harness Technician skills such as soldering are very useful to have as some wiring looms involve this procedure. Skills like having an understanding of third angle projection drawings, attention to detail throughout work, crimping, splicing and using heat shrink materials are all important skills to have.

What is your favourite part of your job and what has been the most rewarding project that you have worked on?

My favourite part of my job is I enjoy the work, with such a variety of different projects on the go keeps it always interesting. Working with new development drawings on projects such as the caracal means we are always learning new things and skills.

I enjoy how the department I work in is very team oriented we all work together to help each other out sharing ideas. Achieving a podium in the Rally1 is always rewarding as it feels great that everyone’s hard work and involvement within M-Sport has worked towards it.

Do you attend any motorsport events? Are you interested in motorsport?

My job is factory based so I don’t attend the events, however I enjoy watching the rally updates throughout the weekend of an event.

Yes I’ve been interested in motorsport since a young age as I competed in go karts for around 8 years at National Level, and my family have a British Championship Motocross Track which I’m involved with running.

What were you up to before you came here?

I was at Sixth form before I came here, M-Sport has been my first job since leaving school.
