Elfyn Evans (1st) said:

“It’s been really challenging out there this morning. The grip levels are so changeable and we’ve had a bit of understeer but I think that’s the same for everyone. It’s all going well at the moment, but you never know how it’s going to work out. We’ll see how the stages develop this afternoon as there’s still a long way to go and it’s certainly not going to be plain sailing.”

Ott Tänak (2nd) said:

“We’ve had a nice clean run this morning and everything is going okay. The first stage [SS2] was really polished and it was tricky to judge the grip, but the next two were okay. The balance of the car isn’t exactly as I’d like it, but we’ll try and work on that for this afternoon and see what we can do. For sure Elfyn will be difficult to beat this weekend, but there’s a long way to go.”

Sébastien Ogier (4th) said:

“The grip was very low in places and it’s not been so easy to read. But we were doing an okay job until the last stage [SS4] when we just didn’t trust the grip enough through the first part of the stage. We all knew Elfyn would be fast here, and he is, so for sure it will be difficult to follow him. But there’s still a long way to go and this rally is challenging for all of us.”
