“It’s been a consistent morning for us. The roads have been drying quite a bit so it was really tricky to predict what the conditions would be like. It’s not been easy and you definitely need to keep your eyes open!

“We’ve been discussing the weather quite a lot and I think that is the main question for this afternoon. Let’s see what it does and what we can do.”

Sébastien Ogier (3rd) said:

“It’s been a tricky morning as expected. The conditions have been quite damp but also drying quickly so there hasn’t been much of an advantage running earlier on the road.

“We’ve not made any big mistakes – only a small one on the opening stage [this morning, SS2] which cost us about five seconds. Without that, it would have been a really good morning.

“I think the rain is coming and there are certainly a lot of dark clouds overhead so let’s see what happens. We have some time to make our tyre choice, and we have to be sure of the latest forecasts.”

Elfyn Evans (4th) said:

“It’s been tricky out there this morning. Some stages were pretty good for us but for some reason we lost time on both passes of the short stage (SS2 and SS5). I’m not too sure why that was as it felt neat and tidy. We didn’t expect to lose that much so we’ll have to look into that.

“The conditions aren’t going to get any better this afternoon. We just need to keep focused, make the right decisions, and see what we can do.”
