FIESTA R5 QUOTES, 2017 RALLY FINLAND, SECTION FIVE

Éric Camilli (2nd RC2) said:

“It’s been a good day for us. We are happy to be competitive in Finland and to be trading times with the Finns. On the last stage Jari [Huttunen] was really fast so the gap is quite big now, but we set the fastest time both times through Ouninpohja which I’m really happy with as that was my first time there! I really enjoy these roads and I had a natural feeling which is good.”

Max Vatanen (6th RC2) said:

“It was a positive day in that we learned a lot and increased the speed. We were still on the safe side though as it’s important to learn and not make mistakes.

“I know where we are losing time and where we can bridge the gap. I am taking it steadily and tomorrow is another opportunity to get some more kilometres.”

Osian Pryce (4th WRC 2 / 7th RC2) said:

“We didn’t drive these roads last year so I was probably a bit too cautious over the morning. We had a bit of a moment on the second stage of the day and we have to say a big thank you to all of the fans who helped us back on the road.

“I braked in what I thought was the normal place for a square-right corner over a crest, but the car started to spin and we went off the road backwards. In the end we only dropped around 40 seconds, but that did knock my confidence a little bit before the Ouninpohja stage.

“Apart from that, I’m pleased with today. We stuck to the plan, made up a couple of places, and took a lot of experience. I can’t believe tomorrow is the final day, but I’m looking forward to it and to having a good go.”

Pierre-Louis Loubet (8th WRC 2 / 15th RC2) said:

“It was a good day for us and we took a lot of pleasure from the stages. I was a little more careful after what happened yesterday but we took a lot of good experience. Tomorrow we will continue like this and try to push if we have a good feeling.

“I was really happy with my pace yesterday, but we made a little mistake with big consequences. Rally by rally our pace is getting better and better – we just need to cut out these small mistakes.”

Gus Greensmith (9th WRC 2 / 16th RC2) said:

“It’s been an okay day. We had a problem with the set-up this morning and just had to limp through the stages. We got that changed for the afternoon and things were pretty positive.

“We won a stage and came close to winning another. And on Ouninpohja I’m pretty sure that we would have been really close to Éric but had a spin at a junction which cost us five or six seconds.

“I decided to save my tyres through the next stage so as to have a good push through Päijälä – a stage I really like. Unfortunately we had to stop on stage and reset the car. Looking at the splits towards the end we would have been pretty fast.

“The speed is good, but we had a bit of bad luck today. We’ll reset tomorrow and give it a big push to see what we can do.”
