The second round of Finnish Fiesta SportTrophy took place at the Vaakuna Rally. Based in Mikkeli in south-east Finland, the event provided challenging snow-and-ice covered stages.
The rally began with two stages in darkness and Miika Hokkanen overcame the tough conditions to take the class lead.
At the end of stage three on the following morning, it was Henrik Pietarinen who took the lead. Pietarinen was unlucky on the opening round but this time he managed to build a small advantage overall his rivals by the mid-way point.
After nine stages, Pietarinen and co-driver Juha Lummaa had increased their margin to 18.5 seconds.
“The start of the second day was really good for us,” said Pietarinen. “After that I lost some grip with the tyres, but I still had new ones for the last loop of stages. Other than that, it was a perfect event for us.”
Hokkanen finished a close second and – having claimed full points on the opening round – extended his lead at the head of the Ford Motorcraft FST series.
Third Fiesta R2T EcoBoost driver at the finish was the young Niko Mäkinen, ahead of Jani Luhtaniemi, Anssi Valkonen and Patric Öhman.
The series returns to action on the next round, Tahko Rally, on March 10-11.
