Hokkanen wins in Kouvola to lead two series

The summer season of the Finnish Fiesta SportTrophy continued at last weekend’s Kouvola Rally and delivered another successful event for Fiesta R2 drivers.

Miika Hokkanen has led the Motorcraft FST series all the way during the season. Now, he has also claimed his first victory in the hotly-contested 2WD Finnish Championship.

“I could set fastest times at the start of the event and in the second loop I just needed to keep calm and avoid mistakes,” said Hokkanen. “My driving rhythm was at a good level and I had no issues during the nine stages.”

The 21-year-old driver from Lahti is now leading both the Motorcraft FST and the Finnish 2WD Championships.

Niko Mäkinen was also in a close battle for the top positions before a puncture dropped him to eighth in the 2WD category, but he still maintained second in FST.

Behind top duo, 19-year-old Jani Luhtaniemi finished third in front of Patric Öhman, Teemu Kiiski and Anssi Valkonen.

The winner of the previous event, Samuli Vuorisalo, was unlucky as he had to retire after hitting a stone on the inside of a fast corner.
