A winning comeback for Vuorisalo

The summer season of the Finnish Fiesta SportTrophy started in superb fashion with five Ford Fiesta R2 drivers inside top-10 in the Finnish Rally Championship.

Taking to Rally Riihimäki, former champion Samuli Vuorisalo returned to the series in style on his debut with the latest one-litre Ecoboost Fiesta R2.

Vuorisalo was immediately fastest in class on SS1 and won what would become a tight battle for the top-spot with an advantage of 4.6 seconds.

“It was so great to win the first event after a year’s break. We had a good pre-event test and I had a proper feeling for the car. I really like the handling of the new Fiesta,” said Vuorisalo.

Miika Hokkanen was third in the Finnish Championship and second in the Ford Motorcraft FST class having led the series all the season.

Niko Mäkinen was third in the FST class and he was much closer to the leaders than in the winter season. Behind the top-three was Jani Luhtaniemi in fourth and Teemu Kiiski in fifth.

Unfortunately, Henrik Pietarinen went off the road and retired on SS6 while leading the class.

The series continues on similarly demanding and fast gravel roads on 10th June at the Kouvola Rally.
